1. Tell us about ASTRA

At ASTRA we create and consult on cost-effective software that helps you optimise, digitise and transform business for the future.

For years we’ve been helping businesses identify pain points and eliminate them in affordable ways that pass on savings. No matter the industry, we can help savvy SMEs make business life easy while collaborating with tech startups on product development and other innovative projects.

2. When and why did you join BNI?

I originally joined BNI at another chapter in 2021. I was invited by a fellow small business owner with whom I have collaborated and cross referred for years.

3. What’s your favourite thing about being an Advantage Avenger?

Coming from a different group with that relativity, I can better appreciate the way we run this chapter. The stand out part is training and mentorship and how invested and passionate mentors are in our group. We are so lucky here.

4. Who is your spirit Avenger and why?

I think I would resonate most with Tony Stark … 🙂

5. Best piece of advice you ever received?

From mentor Scott White: how to properly do three-way referrals. I can say he even demonstrated that more than once.

6. What’s your top tip for finding and passing high value referrals?

There is no secret to it – it’s just caring enough for fellow Avengers and getting out of comfort zone to ask the right questions. It is also a matter of knowing that the connection you are making is correct and will actually benefit both parties involved.

7. Who is Umair outside of business?

Dad to a lovely 5 year old boy Ryan, full time lover to my partner Uzma, amateur marathon runner, SES volunteer, chess player, tennis tragic.

8. Pineapple on pizza: yes or no?

No

9. For you, what would be the ultimate BNI Advantage social event?

Parkrun followed by a visit to the bakery or picnic in the park.

10. What are your goals for the next three years?

  • Grow the business through referrals
  • also to grow interstate primarily to Victoria.
